10,000 Holidays and Counting
Hugh Robert and Lawyers Fighting Hunger have been helping our neighbors in need have a special holiday meal since 2010. Their original goal was just $3,000. Hugh Robert, a former Iron Gate board member and founding member of Lawyers Fighting Hunger, says they raised double their goal in half an hour. And so the fundraising for turkey dinners began. It started as a friendly competition between Tulsa lawyers and Oklahoma City lawyers over who could raise the most money to feed the hungry on Thanksgiving. Thousands of turkey dinners later and the competition was formalized with Lawyers Fighting Hunger a registered nonprofit. The organization partners with Iron Gate and other local nonprofits to make the holidays a little brighter for Tulsa families battling food insecurity. In Tulsa the group not only provides turkey dinners, but also ham dinners in the spring.
